Feeling Good vs Looking Good

  • 2 min read

We all want to look good, don’t we? It gives others a positive impression of us and presents the idea that we have everything together. But sometimes we put all the emphasis on our outward appearance and sacrifice our emotional health and wellbeing in the process. This can actually make us feel worse and create unnecessary problems. It is essential to put just as much, or more, focus on how we feel internally. It is not an easy process, but so worth it in the long run. If you want to feel AND look good, there are two things you should make sure to do.

1.     Think & speak positively

You may have heard the saying “kind words are good for the soul”, and while this quote sounds cheesy, it is so full of truth. However, most of the emphasis from this quote tends to be put on saying kind words. Of course this is an important part of it, but we also need to make sure we think kind words. The thoughts in our brain have the ability to bleed out into our actions, so monitoring them and discarding any negativity will benefit us greatly. Looking for the good in ourselves and other people creates feelings of enlightenment and will overflow onto those around us.

2.     Care about what you wear

Now, this might seem like the opposite of putting focus on how you feel, but the trick is to pay attention to the right things. Instead of caring about what everyone else is going to think of your outfit, concentrate on wearing clothes that are flattering and comfortable at the same time. When you put effort into the way you dress it tells the world that you are confident. Don’t get me wrong, the occasional day of chillin in sweatpants is not the enemy, but maintaining balance is the key.

Really, when it comes down to it, we all have different ways of defining what “looks good” anyway, so why waste the time and energy trying to fit perfectly into a definition that isn’t even your own. People don’t like people who try to be like them, it causes feelings of jealously and negativity. Be the true version of YOU by filling your mind and your mouth with kind words and putting effort into the way you dress.
