The True Foundation for Glowing Skin: Sleep, Food, and Water

We’ve grown accustomed to seeing a million different creams, lotions, serums, and masks that promise better-looking, healthier skin. You may have even tried about a half million of them in different combinations. Some may have an effect on puffiness, dark circles, wrinkles, or redness, while others are not worth the money. The truth is that none of these magic products will work if you don’t set the foundation for healthier skin with good rest, healthy food, and hydration. If these three things are not a part of your routine then the effectiveness of that new miracle cream is akin to throwing darts at a dartboard while blindfolded. You may hit the bullseye, but it's mostly a game of chance. These three key health strategies make it so you can have a proven strategy for improving your overall wellness while also giving your skin that radiant glow—no guesswork needed.

SLEEP

If you’ve ever looked in the mirror after a rough night of sleep, you likely see a visible difference in your skin tone and texture, especially on your face. Getting consistent poor rest will take its toll on your skin in the long run. A small study demonstrated this by taking facial photographs of participants after a restful night’s sleep and then again after a 31-hour period of sleep deprivation following a night of just 5 hours of sleep. The researchers noticed that after the sleep deprivation period, participants had paler skin, more fine lines and wrinkles, and darker circles under their eyes. When we sleep, our body is in repair and recovery mode and that includes our skin. For better-looking skin, a good place to start is to examine how much sleep you’re getting and how you could adjust your sleep habits to get more rest. A sleep supplement is also an option and NB Pure’s Power Down promotes better sleep. With anxiety rates through the roof right now because of pandemic, economic, environmental and political stressors, sleep can be even more elusive right now. Power Down is a non-habit forming, melatonin-free supplement that uses all-natural ingredients to promote restful, restorative sleep.

FOOD

Of course, not just any food — we’re talking about healthy food like vegetables, fruit, whole grains, lean meats, healthy fats, and fish. The foods that we’re not talking about are the highly processed, sugary, fried, and refined ones that will do nothing to help your complexion. In the last decade, dietary changes have become a proven course of action to treat and prevent some skin conditions, such as acne, psoriasis, and even signs of aging. Research has shown that your diet can have a significant impact on how your skin looks and feels while also helping prevent skin diseases. An interesting emerging area of research is the relationship between the bacteria in our gut and our skin, known as the gut-skin axis. What we eat influences our gut microbiome, which may influence our skin.

WATER

Hydration is essential for human health and bodily functions. We obtain water from drinking fluids and from the food that we consume. Being dehydrated impacts so many bodily functions, but it can also leave your skin looking the opposite of glowing. Drinking more water is a positive step to better health and better skin, but that alone won’t magically change your skin. Consuming water in combination with sleep, healthy eating, and other hydrating skincare steps (like adding a humidifier to your routine — water!) will help keep that skin looking fresh and feeling good.
